About…
This song aims to capture the strong and intense qualities of Type Eight with just a hint of vengeance and a dash of excess on the side. It expresses the difficulty experienced when we see the world as a harsh place from which we need to protect ourselves, to always be strong and protect those we love. This song highlights the defence mechanism of ‘denial’ – not acknowledging our own humanness in order to allow our excessive energy to operate without much opposition, trying to avoid vulnerability. The chorus takes us to the relief experienced when we realise that allowing life to affect us won’t be our ruin, but rather our salvation. It points to truth and ultimately, innocence, as gateways to presence. More about Type Eight…
Lyrics
I wanna be brave
Wanna be Strong
And want it now, oh
Don’t wanna be weak
Don’t wanna be down
Don’t wanna be out
Don’t need your help
I’ll protect and be in charge, so...
Get outta my way, I’m comin’ through
But when I rein it in
I see what’s true
What I can be
I wanna be free, I’m gonna be free
To be the innocent me
The innocent me!
I want it fair
Want it my way
And wanna take power
Take care of myself
With no one else
This world can get sour
I love it intense
Love it big
And love it loud
So, get outta my way, I’m comin’ through!
But I’ll rein in
And see what’s true
What I can be
I wanna be free, I’m gonna be free
To be the innocent me
The innocent me!
So stand your ground
Tell me how it is
And when I open up
Don’t shut me down
And I’ll be there for you
See your side too
Yeah I’ll be there for you
I’ll rein it in
And see what’s true
What I can be
I wanna be free, I’m gonna be free
To be the innocent me!
I rein it in
And see what’s true
What I can be
I wanna be free, I’m gonna be free
I wanna be free, oh God damned free!
To be the innocent me
The innocent me!
